City Smarts SHSAT Extended Foundations Clinic (2027)
A 12-week small-group prep program for 7th graders.
Build skills, confidence, and strategy for the 2027 SHSAT — with expert City Smarts instructors.
Our 12-week Extended Foundations Clinic gives 7th graders a true, content-level understanding of the SHSAT—including the new computer-adaptive format—far beyond tricks or shortcuts. Designed for students who want a strong, confident start to their test-prep journey.
What Makes This Program Different
Authentic practice: Students take full-length SHSAT exams at the beginning (optional) and end of the course to measure real progress.
10 small-group instructional classes: Focused sessions build fluency across math, reading comprehension, and grammar, the core pillars of the SHSAT.
Dynamic learning: Each class blends content review, strategy workshops, and guided discussion, helping students reflect on how to apply what they’ve learned under real testing conditions.
Personalized insights: Using data from digital mock exams and assignments, our instructors adjust lessons to meet the needs of the group, something most large test-prep classes can’t do.
Built from 19+ Years of Feedback
For nearly 20 years, we’ve been refining our SHSAT curriculum—one that parents regularly tell us is the best in the city. Our clinics are designed to lay a strong foundation while revealing each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses.
By the end of the program, your child will have the skills, strategies, and self-knowledge to pivot smoothly into targeted private or small-group lessons—and the confidence to tackle the SHSAT head-on.

FAQ
FLEXIBLE LEARNING: REMOTE & CLASSROOM-BASED
We offer three locations: live on Zoom, at our Manhattan offices in the Financial District, and at our Carroll Gardens classroom in Brooklyn. All sessions are led by master instructors.
80 Minutes of Instruction
We believe 80 minutes is the ideal instructional window for 7th graders: long enough to go deep, short enough to keep your child fully engaged.
Clinic capped at 9 students
In order to maintain individual instruction time and encourage peer-learning, we have capped our classes at 9 students. Our instructors will know your student’s individual learning profile and will have addressed their unique needs. Other programs pack classrooms with 15–20 students. We don’t.
Holistic approach
City Smarts teaches content, not tricks. Every year, our students find that their school math grades improve alongside their SHSAT scores—because we focus on authentic understanding. Our instruction is built to last, carrying over into school performance and future standardized tests.
time management and test day strategies
We devote dedicated class time to pacing, managing test anxiety, and building the habits that hold up on test day.
Diagnostics
This course includes a proctored mock test. Each student will receive a detailed test report that not only outlines in which areas he or she needs to continue improving, but also serves as a benchmark for overall progress. Because City Smarts also offers one of the most robust private SHSAT tutoring programs in the city, we guarantee that we will have guidance in place, should your child need it.
