INTRODUCING CITY SMARTS HOLISTIC COACHING

We all need systems, strategies, and routines to keep ourselves organized, to manage our time, and to hit delivery deadlines. Our Holistic Coaching program aims to develop executive function skills in our students.

We approach this work in partnership with our students. We guide rather than prescribe. It's crucial that your child has a say in the process as the ownership and buy-in component is as important as the work itself. We want our students to cultivate their voice and best selves through this work.

WHAT are EXECUTIVE FUNCTION skills?

According to the Harvard University Center of the Developing Child, “Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully. Just as an air traffic control system at a busy airport safely manages the arrivals and departures of many aircraft on multiple runways, the brain needs this skill set to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses.”

City Smarts founder Danielle Florio has been helping students improve their executive functioning for over fifteen years.

OUR PROGRAM CAN ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING

  • Executive Function: Time Management, Organization, Study Skills

  • Motivation & Inspiration

  • Confidence Building & Self Advocacy

  • Healthy Habits & Routines

  • Sleep & Screen Hygiene

  • Mindfulness & Stress Busting

Program Overview

SO HOW DOES HOLISTIC COACHING WITH CITY SMARTS WORK?

We break our holistic coaching program into 8-week blocks. Each block consists of weekly support with an executive function coach, regular progress reports, and periodic consultations with our EF director, Danielle Florio. This format allows us to set goals, build milestones, and measure progress, one block at a time.

the Block System

We set goals at the beginning of each 8-week block, check-in midway to ensure we’re on track, and measure progress at the end, a feedback loop that helps students develop their own skills and build confidence.

MINDPRINT COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT

We use the MindPrint cognitive assessment, developed by UPenn’s Perelman School of Medicine, to identify the student’s learning profile and calibrate their coaching program.

EXPERT SUPERVISION

Every student is assigned a coach for dynamic weekly support, and a director, who helps parents understand their child’s learning profile and ensures that the program is always mission driven.

MONTHLY REPORTS & OFFICE HOURS

Each block includes 2 parent check-ins and monthly student reports. For additional support, City Smarts founder Danielle Florio maintains weekly office hours.

Our neurodiverse child struggled mightily during Covid, falling behind in math and science. City Smarts came in with patience, grace and talent to help get her back on track. Their talented team was able to not only get her back to grade level, but also repair her relationship with math! Thank you to the City Smarts team!
