CTP-5/ISEE SMALL GROUP CLINIC (2021)

testsmarts.png

This clinic is designed to instill 7th graders with an authentic, content-level understanding of a private high school admissions exam, the ISEE, as well as the grade-level assessment they take in the spring of 2021: the ERB/CTP-5. Our 9-week, 11-hour program is designed to serve as a bridge between rigorous 7th grade-level testing and the foundation-building prep for their 8th grade tests.

Over the course of 10 hours of distance instruction and 3 hours of video-proctored assessment testing, your child will hone necessary content building, advanced level test taking strategies, and time management and pacing techniques. Each section of the CTP-5 - Vocabulary, Reading, Verbal Reasoning, and Math - will be the focus of homework, classwork, and class discussions.

As students progress through a classroom test prep curriculum, their needs tend to diverge from one another; it is impossible–or at least very difficult–to fine-tune individual technique in a one-size-fits-all classroom format. Consequently, we view these workshops as a valuable component in a holistic test prep sequence. By the end of our course, students will have built a strong foundation for future tasks. Armed with a detailed knowledge of their individual strengths and weaknesses, students will be prepared to pivot to pinpoint private or further, more focused small-group lessons.

75 Minutes of Instruction

We believe that 75 minutes is an appropriate amount of effective instructional time for most 7th grade learners working in a small group setting: just the right length to keep your child engaged but not exhausted.

Clinic capped at 4 students

In order to maintain individual instruction time and encourage peer-learning, we have capped our classes at 4 students. At the end of 9 weeks, our instructors will know your student’s individual learning profile and will have addressed their unique needs. While other companies pack their classes with up to 15 students, we feel that smaller classes facilitate a scholarly learning environment.

Holistic approach

City Smarts believes that the best way to conquer these tests is to actually learn the material and become confident in the test’s structure. Our instruction has a lasting impact that will serve your child in school and on subsequent standardized tests.

time management and test day strategies

Not only does City Smarts teach content, but we also devote time to pacing, overcoming test anxiety, and time management.

Diagnostics

Our course concludes with a full length mock exam, which will be proctored either at our classroom or virtually, as circumstances allow. Each student will receive a detailed test report that not only outlines in which areas he or she needs to continue improving, but also serves as a benchmark for overall progress. Because City Smarts also offers one of the most robust private ISEE & SSAT tutoring programs in the city, we guarantee that we will have guidance in place, should your child need it.
