Test prep companies that claim to help students "beat the test" overlook the fact that test-taking is a basic component of educational achievement through college and beyond. Having vanquished one test, a student can rest assured there's another one on the horizon. Our instructors at City Smarts offer no crash courses. What we do offer, beyond teaching test strategies, are better testing skills that go deeper than any quick fixes offered by other companies. If a standardized test were "beatable," it wouldn't be administered. Standardized tests are designed by teams of intelligent people who are more than familiar with the "tricks" taught by other companies.

So are the tests "beatable?" Not exactly. But they are standardized. Nearly identical in content from year to year. Now, that does not mean everyone can score competitively right off the bat. So how do we improve scores?
 |
- We build confidence, mental stamina, and a comfort level in our students strongest areas- helping them reserve focus and energy for their most challenging sections.
- We address student weaknesses by assigning test materials and practice exams that are consistent with their potential score level. Since we teach most from 6th grade, 7th grade, high school, college, and graduate level admissions tests, we can gauge where a student's "standardized test" aptitude lies.
- We see trends in testing: new problem types and the subtle shifts in test emphasis. Our instructors take the current and past exams and work from these. They develop materials that build confidence incrementally.

Most importantly, our instructors offer perspective. Yes, there is far too much weight put on standardized test results in our current educational system. But we've taken these tests ourselves and we've seen the doors they open. So have you.
